2005 Lenz Gewürztraminer

ニューヨーク州のワイン生産地の中で新興エリアとして注目を集めている Long Island （ロングアイランド地方）のワイナリー The Lenz Winery （レンズ・ワイナリー）。手をかけて育てた自家栽培のブドウだけを使用しており、ワインの品質は高く評価されている。ワイン自体の製造過程でも通常使うマシンを使わないなど、可能な限り自然なワイン造りを目指し、研究に余念がない。1978年創業で、ロングアイランド地方では古参。

香りは甘いのに味は極ドライでギャップに驚く。1日目は酸味が強すぎる。2日目のほうがまるくなってまとまりがある。それでも酸味が強くスパイシー。。甘いゲヴュルツトラミナーを期待して飲むと拍子抜けするけれど、そういうものだと思って飲めば悪くない。ドイツ・アルザスのようなニューヨークのワイン。これからも飲んでいきたい。

アメリカのワインと言えばまずカリフォルニアワインだが、ニューヨーク州も常に2位前後に入る有数のワイン産地。代表的な産地は大きく Long Island （ロングアイランド）、Hudson River （ハドソンリバー）、 Finger Lakes （フィンガーレイク）、Lake Erie （レイクエリー）の4つがあり、中でもロングアイランドは "ニューヨークのボルドー" と呼ばれ、ワイン産地としても観光地としても注目を集めている。

ニューヨーク州北部の Finger Lakes （フィンガーレイク地方）の中心的ワイナリー Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars （ドクター・コンスタンチン・フランク・ヴィニフェラ・ワイン・セラーズ）。1962年にヨーロッパからの移民である植物科学教授 Dr. Konstantin Frank によって創業。Dr. Konstantin Frank はアメリカ東海岸における "the father of Vinifera （ヨーロッパのブドウ品種の父）" として知られ、東海岸のワイン産業発展に大きく貢献した功績者。五大湖周辺の冬の気候は厳しいが、ヨーロッパ品種がフィンガーレイクで育たないのは、その寒さのせいではなく台木（rootstock）にあると信じ、長年の研究の結果、繊細なヨーロッパ品種の栽培に成功した。

わずかに果実味からくる程度の甘さ。同じアメリカでもワシントン州などの濃厚な甘口リースリングとは全然違う。酸味が豊かで清涼で、ドイツのリースリングに近い。そしてフルボディ。品種を知らずに飲んだらリースリングと判断できる自信がない。でも、飲みごたえのある大変美味しいリースリング。ニューヨークワイン、侮れない。

This dry Riesling, presenting a green gold hue, displays the traditional qualities of Dr. Frank’s Riesling: crisp acidity, a pronounced mineral character and layers of mango, citrus and pear blossoms in the nose. Descriptors include apple and pear with a full-bodied taste along with minerality resulting from the slate terroir of the vineyard. The ripeness of the grapes resulted in a great texture with a lingering fruity finish. This wine has great ageing potential.

2007 Schneider "Le Breton" Cabernet Franc

ニューヨーク州ロングアイランドにあるワイナリー Schneider Vineyards （シュナイダー・ヴィンヤーズ）。ロングアイランドの小さなワイナリーのほとんどがそうであるように、Schneider Vineyards も最初はネゴシアン（ブドウをブドウ製造者から購入し、自分のところでワインを造る）として1994年にスタートしたが、ファーストリリースがワイン通の間で好評となり、2000年に自社畑を購入したが、2007年に再び畑を売却してしまったそう。2005 Cabernet Franc はたった15樽のみ生産。

ニューヨークのワインショップ Astor Wines & Spirits で薦めてもらったニューヨークワイン。ニューヨークはアメリカではカリフォルニアに継ぐワインカントリーで、赤は Cabernet Franc、白は寒冷地だけに Riesling や Gewurztraminer など甘口ワインが有名。

軽やか系のカベルネ・フラン。ピノくらいのミディアム・ボディ。悪くない。2日目は複雑さが抜けて安っぽく感じ、変なえぐみが出たが、それでもまぁ悪くない。
