Heitz Cellars "Ink Grade" Napa Valley Port

カリフォルニア州ナパの St. Helena にある元祖カルト系 Cabernet Sauvignon で有名な歴史あるワイナリー Heitz Cellars （ハイツ・セラーズ）。1976年パリ･テイスティング（Judgement of Paris 1976）の30周年を記念した2006年リターンマッチ（30th Anniversary Celebration）にて、パリの名だたるワイナリーを抑え Cabernet Sauvignon 部門総合評価第3位に輝く。観光地化するナパにあって未だテイスティング無料という良心的なワイナリー。

Touriga Nacional、Tinta Roriz、 Sauzao、Tinta Cao、Tinta Bairrada、Tinta Madeira、Tinta Amarela 、Bastardo と本場ポルトガルのポートワインに使用される品種をナパで育てたブドウで造られているポートワイン。カリフォルニアによくある、ジンファンデルで造られているただの甘すぎるポート系のデザートワインとは違い、本物のポートに近い複雑で少し苦みのある味わい。

食後酒として買ってきた Port 第二段。
1670年創業のイギリスのポート会社 Warre （ワレ）。かつて英国とポルトガルの交易が始まり、英国のポートワイン会社としては先駆者として、300年以上という最も古い歴史を誇っている。日本でも10年物 Tawny Port OTIMA や Vintage Port は名が通っているみたい。Tawny Port は Ruby Port と製法や熟成期間が違うと前回調べたはずなのに、Warri's の Tawny と Ruby はなぜか熟成期間も糖度もまったく同じにしか書かれていない（オーク樽で平均3年熟成）。

ポートワインのブドウ品種は主にポルトガル土着品種の Touriga Nacional （トウリガ・ナショナル）、Touriga Francesa （トウリガ・フランカ）、Tinta Barroca （ティンタ・バロッカ）、Tinta Roriz （ティンタ・ロリス = Tempranillo）、Tinto Cão （ティント・カゥン）など。Tinta Roriz や Touriga Nacional は通常のスティールワインでも使われる（過去に飲んだポルトガルワイン）。

甘い。よめはポートより甘口シェリーのほうが多少あっさりしていて好き。

初めての Tawny Port。
Tawny Port は、最も一般的に出回っている Ruby Port と製法が異なる。Ruby Port は発酵後ステンレスタンクに入れて酸化を防ぐが、Tawny Port は樽でより長期間保存し、緩やかな酸化を促す。Ruby Port が濃い赤紫色なのに対し、Tawny Port は黄色がかった褐色となる。

今まで飲んだことのあるポートとは違う。とろっとした甘さが抑えられて、むしろさらっとした感じ。不思議な味わいは樽香だったのかな。よめは、食後酒として飲むなら普通のポートのほうが好み。かなり安価な Tawny なのでなんとも言えないが。

2002 Stonehouse Amador County Port

Stonehouse Vineyards & Winery は、サンフランシスコから北東へ車で約2時間半のあたりにあるワイン地方 Amador County（アマドー）に、2005年秋にオープンしたばかりの新しいワイナリー。テイスティング・ルームには、カリフォルニア州サクラメント生まれの光を描く画家として有名な Thomas Kinkade の油絵がたくさん展示＆販売してあり、ちょっとしたギャラリー風。Port はあまり飲みなれていないけれど、ブドウの香りがちゃんとする結構美味しい Port だと思った。ポルトガルの元祖 Port より美味しいかも。アルコール度数 19.5%。
