Côtes-du-Rhône （コート・ドュ・ローヌ）地方の中で最高級ワインの産地である Châteauneuf-du-Pape （シャトーヌフ・デュ・パプ）。

Domaine du Pégaü （ドメーヌ・デュ・ペゴー）は、シャトーヌフの造り手の中で、わずか10しかない Robert Parker 100ポイント獲得生産者として、また19しか存在しないパーカー氏の最上評価生産者として認定されている。日本の人気コミック 『神の雫』 にて "第3の使徒" にも選ばれている。1946年当主の Paul Feraud （ポール・フラウド）氏によって小さなワイナリーとしてスタート。1987年にポール氏の娘 Laurence （ローレンス）女史がワイン醸造学の勉強を終えてワイン造りに加わり、ぺゴーの質は飛躍的に向上。フラッグシップワインである Cuvee da Capo （キュヴェ・ダ・カポ）は、暫定を含め3度のパーカー100ポイントを獲得。シャトー・ヌフ好きのパーカー氏が常に高評価をすることでこってりとしたパワフルなワインをイメージしがちだが、緻密で品格も感じさせ、単発ではなく継続させ安定した品質を維持し、注目を浴び続けている。カリフォルニアのカルトワインの巨人 Harlan Estate の姉妹ブランド BOND の取締役支配人であり、ミシュラン3つ星レストラン French Laundry グループのワイン購買マネージャーも務め上げたポール・ロバーツ氏も賞賛し、「ベスト・シャトーヌフ・デュ・パプ」と太鼓判を押している。

空けたばかりの時は凝縮された果実の香りとムンムンしたスパイシーさだけが目立ったものの、開いてくるにつれてイタリアワインのような土臭いミネラル感と野性的などんどん広がってくる面白いワイン。果実味とボリューム感はいかにも若いローヌの味わいで、余韻も長い。2008年は決してヌフの良年ではないけれど、久々のヌフはやはり美味しい。（ヌフの良年は2000、2001、2007。）

Côtes-du-Rhône （コート・ドュ・ローヌ）地方の中で最高級ワインの産地である Châteauneuf-du-Pape （シャトーヌフ・デュ・パプ）。そのシャトーヌフ・デュ・パプの中で最も歴史のある造り手の1つである Château de Vaudieu （シャトー・ド・ヴォーデュー）。70ヘクタールという同地で最大級の畑を持つ。

2007年のブレンド比率は 80% Grenache、15% Syrah、5% Mourvedre。今まで飲んだヌフの中ではやや甘め。ブラックチェリーやリコリスなど。少しだけ熟成が進んでおり、スパイシーさは残っているもののスムーズな口当たりが印象的。ヌフ最高良年と言われる2007年だったが期待した程の複雑さはなく、もう少し寝かせても良かったのかもしれない。

2007 Parkmon Vineyards "Debbie's Cuvée"

カリフォルニア州 Moraga （Walnut Creek や Oakland Hills 近郊）にある家族経営の小さなワイナリー Parkmon Vineyards。Lamorinda というワイン産地になるらしい。ブドウは Russian River Valley、Contra Costa County、Lamorinda、Mt. Veeder、Santa Barbara County など幅広い。去年の10月のK&Lテイスティングで気に入ってお買い上げした一本で、オーナー兼ワインメーカーの Dave Parker 氏のサイン入り。

フルーティだけど、決してフルーツ爆弾ではない落ち着いた感じのカリフォルニアのローヌ・ブレンド。落ち着きの中にもしっかりとしたスパイシーさがあり、バランスもコストパフォーマンスも非常に良い一本。応援したい地元の小さなワイナリー。78% Grenache。

This year, our Southern Rhone-styled blend (Grenache-based) is a real standout.  Whereas our 2006 version was more like a wine from the Gigondas region (lighter, fruit-forward), our 2007 Debbie’s Cuveé is definitely more “Chateauneuf-du-Pape-like”.  With 78% Grenache from our vineyard, one would expect a lighter-colored, more svelte wine; but because of the vintage’s characteristically outstanding pigment development and the higher skin-to-juice ratio enjoyed after bleeding off 12% of the juice pre-fermentation (for Shari’s Rosé), this wine presents a deep, sumptuous yet vibrant color of cherry red, tending toward magenta, with excellent clarity in the glass.  It displays a big intoxicating cherry vanilla nose with a touch of earthiness, evolving into a classic Chateauneuf-like ripe strawberry.  The palate is opulent, full-bodied, and lush, with a touch of spice and a well-rounded structure (aided by the 12% Carignane component).  This is a sexy, hedonistic wine with excellent balance between fruit, power, and elegance.  The fine-grained tannins are evident in the finish, which continues to expand from the back-palate and seems to go on and on and on.  
This wine would be an excellent match for a lean lamb stew with root vegetables in a broth, cooked down to a rich, flavor-packed reduction.  The rich fruit in its youth, especially with sufficient aeration, makes this wine particularly satisfying to drink now, but you’ll be rewarded with elegance and enhanced complexity if cellared for a few years.  This is another wine for which I’m excited to observe its development over the next 20 years.

Côtes-du-Rhône （コート・ドュ・ローヌ）地方の中で最高級ワインの産地である Châteauneuf-du-Pape （シャトーヌフ・デュ・パプ）。その地で1860年からワイン造りを続ける Boiron 家のワイナリー Domaine Bosquet des Papes （ドメーヌ・ボスケ・デ・パプ）。ローヌ好きロバート・パーカー氏からも高い評価を得ている。北ローヌがシラーを中心とする一方、シャトーヌフ・デュ・パプを含む南ローヌはグレナッシュの比率が高く、今回飲んだ Cuvée Tradition も、通常 75% Grenache、10% Syrah、10% Mourvedre、5% Cinsault のブレンド。

数年前にヌフを飲もうと購入し寝かせておいたもの。2005年はローヌおよびシャトーヌフ・デュ・パプの大当たり年。良い感じに熟成している。スパイシーさは強いものの、タンニンは軽く、つるんとした舌触り。角は取れていても、しっかりとした骨格を持ち、これぞヌフと感動。力強いローヌばかりだと飲み疲れてしまうけど、時々飲む分には非常に美味しく飲める。ジビエに合いそう。

The wine is ripe, full-bodied, powerful, and moderately tannic. It will probably drink well young but should age nicely for 10-15 years. This superb estate never misses a beat with its wines, which are all reasonably drinkable at a young age, normally exhibit terrific Provencal typicity, and have uncommon aging potential. 南フランス・プロヴァンスの大手ワイナリー Château Roubine （シャトー・ルビンヌ）。その名は世界的にも知られており、自社畑に植えられている全13種のブドウを使って赤白ロゼの様々なワインを生産している。

南仏エズのホテル Les Terrasses d'Eze （レ・テラス・デズ）のレストランで勧められた1本。初めてのプロヴァンスの赤。おそらく Grenache （グレナッシュ）を主体とした Syrah、Cabernet Sauvignon、Grenache、Carignan のブレンド。Gamay （ガメイ）を彷彿とさせる軽めの色調。香りも Gamay 系の木苺風でとてもフルーティー。しばらく置くとどんどん果実実が豊かになる。珍しい。Gamay と Pinot Noir の中間みたいな印象。

The grapes are picked according to their particular varieties and undergo de-stemming, de-stalking and crushing. Alcoholic fermentation which takes about 10 days is followed by vatting (fermenting on the lies) for 10 days. After malo-lactic fermentation, the wines are blended and aged in cuve. The wine is then filtered and bottled. The result is a ruby red wine with spicy, garrigue aromas and red fruits, to be appreciated with manly traditional and on cheeses.

Recommended temperature for serving: 13° - 14°C (may be slightly cooled).
Can be stored up to 5 years.

フランス・コート・デュ・ローヌ地方 Châteauneuf-du-Pape （シャトーヌフ・デュ・パプ）にあるワイナリー Château de Beaucastel （シャトー・デュ・ボーカステル）で、1909年から Perrin 一族が造り始めた Domaines Perrin （ドメーヌ・ペラン）のワイン。現在の4代目 Jean Pierre Perrin （ジャン・ピエール・ペラン）氏は、1962年にニワトリラベルの La Vieille Ferme （ラ・ヴィエイユ・フェルム）を発表、1989年にはカリフォルニア州 Paso Robles でローヌの台木・穂木を使用した Tablas Creek （タブラス・クリーク）をリリースし、話題を呼んだ。1964年よりオーガニック製法にこだわり、ローヌ地方ではその先駆者として知られている。

ワイン好きの友人が好評していたローヌの赤。ローヌにしてはクセがなく飲みやすく、果実味とスパイシーさとタンニンのバランスのよさが心地よい。価格も手頃。50% Syrah、50% Grenache。（以前このワイナリーの白を飲んでいる。それもなかなかだった。）

It is a blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Grenache from two specific vineyard plots that are among the best in the Rhône Valley. The 2007 Côtes du Rhône-Villages from Perrin & Fils is an absolute pleasure to imbibe. Like a great dinner guest, this juicy but perfectly balanced red will integrate seamlessly with many mediterranean inspired dishes and end up making quite an impression at your next meal. Chorizo and a hunk of Manchego? Chanterelle pizza? Rosemary skewered lamb kebabs? This 2007 should definitely be one of your go to wines. 2006 Villa Creek "Avenger" Paso Robles

カリフォルニア州パソロブレスにあるワイナリー Villa Creek Cellars。2007年10月の Food and Wine 誌上で、かのロバート・パーカーに「パソロブレスで一番好きなワイナリーの１つだ （Villa Creek is one of my favorite wineries in Paso Robles.）」とまで言わしめた同ワイナリーは、主にローヌ系の様々な赤ワインを生産している。

今回飲んだ Avenger （「仇を討つ者」を意味する）は、シラーを主体としたブレンドワイン。2006年のブレンド比率は 50% Syrah、30% Mourvèdre、20% Grenache。パソロブレスらしく濃厚な味わいは残しつつも、どことなく繊細で複雑な味わいがとても魅力的な一本。

Avenger is our Syrah based blend, which launched the Villa Creek wine program back in 2001. While much has changed for us since that inaugural vintage, Avenger remains a favorite in the line-up. The 2006 Avenger is comprised of Denner and Booker Vineyard fruit. The grapes from these vineyards continue to gain complexity and richness with age, and this just may be the richest bottling of this wine to date.

2006 Goats do Roam

1999年に南アフリカのワイナリー兼ヤギ牧場の Fairview Wines （フェアヴュー・ワイン）が発表したローヌ・ブレンドの赤ワイン。Goats （ヤギ）＋ do （強調のdo）＋ Roam （うろうろ歩き回る）の意味だが、語呂やブレンド品種からフランス、ローヌ地方 Côtes-du-Rhône （コート・デュ・ローヌ）をもじったパロディ・ワインであることは明らか。名前はパロディだがワインの質は高く、こうしたジョークを好むアメリカで商業的成功を得た。他にも、Côte-Rôtie （コート・ロティ）をもじった Goat-Roti （ヤギのロースト）、Bordeaux をもじった Bored Doe （退屈な雌ヤギ）、God Father をもじった The Goatfather （ザ・ゴートファーザー）などがある。集英社コミック 『ソムリエール』 8巻に登場。

ローヌブレンドの中では、飲みやすくコストパフォーマンスのいいワイン。ただし、これが伝統的なローヌかどうか、ローヌ経験不足のうちには判断し兼ねるのが悲しいところ。（最終的には、飲みやすく美味しいワインであることが大切なのだが。）飲みすぎたのかおっとは悪酔い。Shiraz （シラーズ）、Pinotage （ピノタージュ）、Cinsault （サンソー）、Carignan （カリニャン）、Mourvedre （ムールヴェルドル）、Gamay Noir （ガメイ・ノアール）によるブレンド。

フランス Rhône Valley で最も古い老舗ワイナリー J. Vidal-Fleury （ヴィダル フルーリー）。創業1781年。Côte-Rôtie （コート・ロティ）地区の Ampuis （アンピュイ）に拠点を置き、伝統的なローヌワインを造り続けている。現在は E.Guigal 社の傘下に入っているが、ギガル社のブランドとは別にリリースされている。

ワイン好きの友人が「とてもコストパフォーマンスのいい1本」と薦めてくれたローヌ。鮮やかなガーネット色。ローヌによくある独特なくせがなく、木苺のような香りで飲みやすい。食事にも合い、食事の後でもずっとグラスに手が伸びる。ローヌに苦手意識を持つよめも大好きだった。これで7ドルとは！コストパフォーマンスの高さで星4つ。60% Grenache、30% Syrah、10% Mourvedre。

フランスのコート・デュ・ローヌにあるドメーヌ Domaine Grand Nicolet （ドメーヌ・グラン・ニコレ）。1926年創設、にこのアペレーションにおける初の個人経営ドメーヌだった。現在のオーナーは Jean Pierre Bertrand （ジョン・ピエール・ベルトラン）氏。除草剤や農薬の使用を最小限にし、伝統に忠実に昔ながらローヌワインを生産している。ラインナップは Côtes du Rhône、Côtes du Rhône Villages Rasteau、Vin Doux Naturel red。

80% Grenache、その他 Syrah と Carignan の南ローヌスタイルのブレンド。グレナッシュがベースだからか北ローヌのようなパワフルなシラーの感じがなく、それでいてスペインワインのような軽快な飲みやすさ。よめはローヌが苦手なのだがこれは好きな1本だった。ロバートパーカー曰く、2007年は今世紀最高のローヌの当たり年。それも手伝ってかもしれない。
