Sancerre （サンセール）は、フランス・ロワール地方を代表する AOC。他のロワール地区の白ワインが Chenin Blanc （シュナン・ブラン）を使っているのに対し、サンセールとロワール河対岸の Pouilly-Fumé （プイィ・フュメ）では Sauvignon Blanc が主力品種となっている。サンセールはフルーティでチャーミングなタイプからミネラルの骨格が雄大な長期熟成に耐えるタイプまで、幅広いスタイルのワインを持ち、それを生み出す多彩なテロワールを有する。

サンセール地区 Chavignol （シャヴィニョル村）にあるドメーヌ Domaine Gérard Boulay （ドメーヌ・ジェラール・ブレ）。その歴史は1380年に遡る。このドメーヌの自社畑、シャヴィニョルの傾斜した地質はフランスの Chablis （シャブリ）に似ており、ミネラルを含む味わいもトップクラスのシャブリとの引き合いに出されるほど。ラベルに必ずヤギさん。

K&Lお勧めの造り手。去年も同時期に同じワインの１年前のヴィンテージを飲んでいる。去年よりはミネラル、酸味と茎草の香りが強く、ロワールらしいサンセールの印象だが可もなく不可もなく。よめは圧倒的に同造り手のシングルヴィンヤードのサンセールが好みだった。

2010 Cloudy Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

ニュージーランド最大のワイン産地 Marlborough （マールボロ）にあるワイナリー Cloudy Bay。ニュージーランドのソーヴィニヨン・ブランを世界に広げたといっても過言ではなく、誰もが認めるベンチマーク的存在となっている。

久々の Cloudy Bay。3年以上前に非常に高い評価を下したおっとがブラインドで飲んだところ、限りなく不評。ニューワールド、おそらくカリフォルニアの安いソーヴィニヨン・ブランと予想し、大好きなはずの Cloudy Bay だったことに驚きを隠せない。翌日は落ち着いたものの、全体的に酸味が強すぎる印象だったのはよめも同じ感想。ニュージーランド特有の草っぽさよりも酸味の強い柑橘系が全面に出ている。味覚が変わったのか、ワインが変わったのか。

2009 Patient Cottat "Le Grand Caillou" Sauvignon Blanc

フランス・ロワール地方サンセールの小さな村で Fournier 一家がワインを造り続ける Patient Cottat。現在は Mentou Salon （メヌトゥー・サロン：1959年に認定された新しいアペラシオン）、Pouilly-Fumé （プイィ・フュメ）、Sancerre （サンセール）のワインを造っている。今回のワインは、「サンセールの半分の価格でサンセールに近い味わいが楽しめる Vin de Pays （AOC認定されていないテーブルワイン）」としてK&Lが何年も扱っているもの。石の絵をラベルでフィーチャーしているあたり、同じロワールの最高峰 Silex を彷彿とさせる（飲んだ事は無い）。

ロワールの個性的な濃さと、強烈とも言えるライムストーンのミネラル。暑い季節にキンキンに冷やして飲めば更に格別だろうと思う。100% Sauvignon Blanc。

The Fournier family, with roots as deep as their vines in this region seem to be related to just about everyone in some way and have for generations been farming and producing wines in Sancerre. 2010 Zafrika Sauvignon Blanc

南アフリカのワイン Zafrika （ザフリカ）。Zebra （シマウマ）+ Africa （アフリカ）？主に輸出専門の VIN-X-PORT という南アフリカの会社が持つブランドの1つ。Zafrika ブランドからは、今回飲んだ Sauvignon Blanc の他、南アフリカ特有の品種 Pinotage を始め、Chenin Blanc 、Shiraz 等のワインを生産している。

Trader Joe's で見つけたお手頃ワイン。判りやすい果実味でバランスもよく、深みはないが飲みやすい。値段の割にはなかなか美味しい。

K&Lスタッフが、これ以上牡蠣にあうサンセールはない！と絶賛する1本。造り手である Hippolyte Reverdy に関する情報は殆どないものの、酸味、ミネラル、そしてほんのり甘い（フローラル？）果実味のバランスが非常に良く、牡蠣（生、BBQ）との相性は抜群だった。

フランス・ロワール地方、サンセールの造り手 Domaine Pascal Cotat （ドメーヌ・パスカル・コタ）。コタ家は、Didier Dagueneau（ディデイエ・ダグノー）、Alfonso Mellot（アルフォンソ・メロ）、Henri Bourgeois（アンリ・ブルジョワ）に並ぶサンセールの傑出した造り手。非常に似たラベルでワインを出す François Cotat （フランソワ・コタ）と Pascal Cotat （パスカル・コタ）は従兄同士。元々は父親同士が営む一つのドメーヌだったのが2つに別れ（フランソワの醸造所はサンセールのシャヴィニョル村、パスカルはサンセール）、現在は同じ畑のブドウから別々にワイン造りを行っている。似たような味わいではあるものの、フランソワの造るワインは繊細でミネラルに富んだ造り、パスカルの造るワインは果実味にあふれ、非常に華やかな派手な造りとなっている。インポーターはバークレーの North Berkeley Imports。

"Damned Mountains （非常な山）" を意味するこの単一畑は、他に類を見ない急勾配故に手作業で収穫が行われ、ロワールの中でももっともチョーキーなワインを造ることで知られている。開いてくるとミネラル感が強くて非常に美味しい。今まで飲んだサンセールの中では以前飲んだ Gerard Boulay （ジェラール・ブレ）と並んで間違いなくトップクラス。

2008 Matanzas Creek Winery Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc

カリフォルニア州ソノマにある Matanzas Creek Winery （マタンザス・クリーク・ワイナリー）。ワイナリーが拠点を構える Bennett Valley （ベネット・ヴァレー）は、2003年に Matanzas Creek の申請によって新たに AVA 登録された新しいワイン地域。3つの山々の谷間で起こる "Petaluma Wind Gap （ペタルマ・ギャップ）" と呼ばれる太平洋からの霧と冷風の影響で、同じソノマでも北にある Russian River Valley の気候に似ているのだそう。

淡い麦わら色。レモンやグレープフルーツの豊かな柑橘系。果実味は豊かだけど甘すぎず、ドライすぎず、よいバランス。ソーヴィニヨン・ブランにしては、フレッシュというより柔らかくまろやかな口当たりと思ったら、青草系とは違ったスタイルで、少量の樽発酵ワインをブレンドする特徴的な製法。

Our Sauvignon Blanc is crafted to express the grape's subtler side, to achieve this with a varietal that naturally tends toward an overt grassiness or vegetative aspect, strict attention to detail is required. In the vineyard discing the soil, pruning and canopy management control vigor. We add texture to the palate by blending Sauvignon Musqué and aging a small percentage in fine grained French oak. The nose has an intensely perfumed fresh bouquet of pink grapefruit and watermelon combines with energetic spice notes underlined by invigorating minerality. Emulating the nose, the palate of crisp citrus and melon flavor carries a hint of dry white herb accompanied by a soft, round mouth feel resulting in a medium bodied, fresh, food-friendly wine.

行きつけのワインショップ K&L でのレビューが高かったのでお買い上げした、フランスのサンセールのワイン Domaine Cherrier & Fils （ドメーヌ・シェリエ）。ドメーヌの情報はほとんど見つからず。

サンセールにしては濃いめの色調とフレッシュで力強い柑橘系の果実味。ミネラルとのバランスがいいので甘すぎない。カニとの相性が抜群だった一本。飲みやすくてよめお気に入り。

ニュージーランドの大手ワイナリー、手形のラベルで有名な Seresin Estate （セレシン・エステート）のセカンドラベル Momo。Momo は、ニュージーランド先住民・マオリ族の言葉で「子孫」を意味する。

K&Lで見つけたお手頃なソーヴィニヨンブラン。NZらしい草っぽさとハーブ感は感じられるものの、以前飲んだ Cloudy Bay や Dog Point ほどの強烈な香りと酸味は感じられず、多少大人しい印象。よく言えば飲み易くて万人受けする典型的名美味しいNZのソーヴィニヨンブラン。最新ヴィンテージ（2009）を飲めるとよかった。

(04/09) The 2008 Momo Sauvignon Blanc is made from a blend of fruit from vineyards located on the plains of the Wairau Valley of Marlborough. The Sauvignon was picked between March 29 and April 11 in the late evening and early morning, to ensure the fruit was cool when it reached the winery. After fermentation at a low temperature, to retain fruit character, the wine was allowed time sitting on yeast lees to give greater palate depth and complexity. Aromas of tropical fruit and citrus with a hint of minerality. The palate is textural and rich with ripe tropical fruit and grapefruit. The finish is crisp and dry. Delicious with all types of seafood and summer salads, or just by itself as a refreshing aperitif. 90 points Stephen Tanzer's IWC: "Bright pale yellow. Pungent aromas of ginger, dusty stone, mint and flowers. Supple, juicy and intense, with a distinctly mineral saline quality complicating the enticing ginger and citrus peel flavors and giving definition to the middle palate. I like this wine's purity and dusty texture. Finishes quite dry but ripe, with a clinging, saline chewy quality and excellent length."
