フランス・ボルドー南岸の Graves （グラーヴ）に隣接する地域 Entre-Deux-Mers のワイナリー Château La Rose Du Pin （シャトー・ラ・ローズ・デュ・パン）。オーナーの Ducourt 一族は1858年頃からこの地でワイン造りを営んでおり、その後着実に事業を拡大。今日では1,090エーカーものブドウ畑と12のシャトーを保有するまでとなる。今回の Château La Rose Du Pin もそのうちの1シャトー。

サンフランシスコのフレンチレストラン Cafe Jacqueline にて、ブリーチーズに良く合うとウェイターにお勧めされた Bordeaux Blanc AOC 白ワイン。香りはトロピカルで華やか。だが口に含むと驚くほど辛口の白。ロワールとはまた違ったミネラル感を持つリッチなソーヴィニヨン・ブランの味。色もやや濃いめで初めてボルドーの白を美味しいと感じた一本。85% Sauvignon (Blanc)、15% Semillon の典型的なボルドー白ブレンド。

2008 Château La Gatte, Blanc

ボルドーの家族経営のワイナリー Château La Gatte。共に国際的なワインの輸出入ビジネスを行っていたボルドー出身の Hélène Fenouillet 女史とニューヨーク出身の Michael Affatato 氏が結婚、2004年にワイナリーを設立。ロゼを主軸とし、メルローを主体としたいくつかのボルドーワインを生産している。敷地内には小さなB&Bも併設されている。

60% Sauvignon Gris、40% Sauvignon Blanc の珍しいブレンド。Sauvignon Gris は、Sauvignon Blanc の突然変異種の1つで、ピンクの色調から Sauvignon Rosé とも呼ばれる。（これだけ聞くとロゼ向きのブドウのようにも思われる。）厚い果皮、Sauvignon Blanc と同等の酸味だがより糖度が高く、アロマティックな特徴を持つ。濃い味わいが印象的で、ボルドーの白の中では好印象。同ワイナリーのロゼの方がおっと、よめ共にヒットだった。

60% Sauvignon Gris, 40% Sauvignon Blanc There is but one hectare (2.2 acres) of blancs planted at La Gatte, dating 1985. The rarely-seen sauvignon gris is pink in hue, has thick skins and gives great girth and body ; the sauvignon blanc lends much-needed aromatics. Dry, with nice acacia flower adn delicate mineral nuances, this wine makes a wonderful aperitif drink or can hold up to all seafood dishes, white meats, sauces, smoked meats and saucisson.

ボルドー5大シャトーのひとつ、メドック地区格付け第1級 Château Mouton Rothschild （シャトー・ムートン・ロートシルト / ロッチルド） を世に送り出す Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A. のボルドー AOC ワイン、Mouton Cadet （ムートン・カデ）。世界で最も売れている単一ブランドのボルドーワインと言われている。1930年代、ボルドーに非常に厳しい年が訪れ、Château の品質には及ばないが良質の Mouton Cadet が誕生。原料となるブドウは Baron Philippe 厳しい監視の下で買い上げられ、醸造は全て自社で行うことで質の高いワイン製造を可能にしている。1970年代に白ワイン Mouton Cadet White、2004年にはロゼワイン Rosé de Mouton Cadet を生産開始。近年では消費者の嗜好がフルーティーなワインへとシフトしているのに合わせて、赤はメルローの比率を上げてよりソフトに、白はソーヴィニヨン・ブランの比率を上げてよりアロマティックなスタイルへと変化させ、時代の要請に合わせて、常にそのスタイルを変化させ続けている。

香りはシャルドネのよう。でも味はまったく違う。飲んだことのないブレンドのようだと思ったら、おっととよめが苦手なボルドーの白。でも、ムートン・カデは飲みやすい。ソーヴィニヨン・ブランがベースだが、フルボディかつ上品なカリフォルニアのSBとは違った味わいを持つ。Sauvignon Blanc、Semillon （セミヨン）、Muscadelle （ミュスカデル）のボルドー白ブレンド。アルコール度数12%。

K&L Premium Wine Club 2007 10月のワイン。
ボルドーの Chateau Cantelys （シャトー・カントリス）。オーナーは Chateau Smith-Haut-Lafitte （シャトー・スミス・オー・ラフィット）のオーナーでもある（注）。Chateau Cantelys と Chateau Smith-Haut-Lafitte は共に、ボルドー南部、Graves （グラーヴ）地方の一部である Pessac-Leognan （ぺサック・レオニャン）という AOC に位置する。グラーヴ地方はボルドーでも貴重なワイン生産地で、ボルドーの中で唯一赤ワインと白ワインを作る AOC。

今回の白ワインは 50% Sauvignon Blanc、50% Semillon のブレンド。白い花のエレガントな香り、草っぽい風味と強い樽香が融合した感じ。味は軽め。以前 K&L でテイスティングしたボルドーのグラーヴ地方の白も近い感じだったような。最初冷やしすぎてて感じなかったが、適温になると辛さが際立つ（by よめ）。もっとキリっとした感じでもいい（by おっと）。悪くはないけど、ニューワールド系の Sauvignon Blanc のほうが好み。

（注）
「シャトー・スミス・オー・ラフィット」は、Pauillac （ポイヤック）の「ラフィット・ロートシルト」とは関係が無く、ラフィットの綴りも違うので注意。

This is one of K&L's rare Direct Imports from Bordeaux. A blend of 50% sauvignon blanc and 50% sémillon, the wine was aged on its lees with regular stirring for body and smoothness. It has a nose of white flowers, pear and lanolin. On the palate it is light, delicate and focused with lots of grapefruit and tangerine notes with good persistence on the finish.
